The Greek Police announced the identification of a 48-year-old bus driver, who was recorded in a video released on social media making a dangerous and illegal U-turn on Athens-Souniou Avenue. The identification was made by police officers of the Special Information Analysis and Social Networks Group of the Attica Traffic Directorate, after a preliminary investigation. The incident occurred on the afternoon of August 13, 2026. According to the announcement, the driver allegedly violated the double dividing line by making a U-turn while vehicles were moving in both traffic streams. In the video, which gathered a large number of views, the bus can be seen blocking the flow of vehicles in both directions.

Beyond the maneuver itself, the control was also extended to the vehicle’s operating elements. In the check of the bus tachograph, violations related to the driver’s insufficient rest time were found, for which the prescribed administrative fines were imposed. The tachograph records speed, driving time and breaks, and its reading is standard practice in commercial vehicle inspections. The rules for bus drivers’ timetables are harmonized at European level and are precisely aimed at avoiding accidents due to fatigue. Time violations are often found during the summer months, when tour bus schedules are denser and drivers cover back-to-back routes.
