Rents: up 3.8% nationwide, survey shows

According to a survey by the RE/MAX Greece real estate network, which covered 124 areas across the country, residential rents are rising almost everywhere in Greece. The average increase at national level reached 3.8%, as published on Friday 4 September 2026. In Attica, the average rental price reached 9.2 euros per square metre, up 4.3% compared with the 8.9 euros recorded a year earlier. The rise was even larger in the municipality of Athens, where the average rent stood at 9.8 euros per square metre, marking an annual increase of 5.4% from 9.3 euros last year.

The same survey also recorded the areas with the largest percentage increases in rents nationwide. At the top of the list was Nea Iraklitsa, in the Kavala prefecture, with a rise of 16.7%, followed by Petralona in Athens with 15.6%. Third place was shared by Kypseli in Athens and Thermi in Thessaloniki, both with an annual increase of 14.3%. These are figures from a private network of estate agencies and they reflect asking prices in its own listings, not those of an official statistical authority. Housing costs have been closely watched in recent years, as rents make up a significant part of the family budget, an issue that comes up frequently in other reports in the economy section.
