Chania: 11,200-euro fines for parking business after inspection

A tax audit case involving a parking business in Chania reached the Dispute Resolution Directorate (DED), which rejected the businessman’s appeal against fines totalling 11,200 euros, according to a report by neakriti.gr on 23 September 2026, which cites protothema.gr. The case traces back to an on-site inspection carried out on 1 November 2025 by a team from the public revenue investigation service (YEDDE) of Attica at the specific parking facility, without specifying the exact location or the name of the business.

According to the report, the inspectors compared the vehicles present at the site at that moment with the entries in the Digital Client Registry of the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) and identified twelve cars that had entered without their entry being electronically recorded. A fine of 100 euros was imposed for each unregistered vehicle, amounting to 1,200 euros in total for that violation. The Digital Client Registry is, generally, an electronic system for recording customers in certain categories of businesses, through which activity is declared in real time so that declared revenue can be cross-checked against actual activity.

Beyond the check on the Digital Client Registry, the report states that the business was asked to carry out an electronic transaction, in order to establish whether the POS terminal was connected to the tax electronic mechanism. The inspectors found, again according to the report, that there was no EFT/POS device available on site at that time, a violation that raised the total fine to 11,200 euros. In the context of the same case, the report also mentions a seized Smart POS, without specifying the exact breakdown of the remaining amount beyond the 1,200 euros corresponding to the unregistered vehicles.

The appeal filed by the businessman was examined by the Dispute Resolution Directorate, the administrative body a taxpayer can turn to before resorting to the courts, and was rejected, upholding the fine in full. The same report states, without linking the fact to the tax case, that the owner of the business is reportedly held in pre-trial detention; the reason is not specified in the report and it is not established that it is related to the inspection. The presumption of innocence applies to every pending case until a final ruling is issued. It is not stated whether the businessman intends to pursue further recourse in the administrative courts, nor whether part of the fine has been paid.
