Βούλα: μοτοσικλετιστής σε ταξί που έκανε αναστροφή

A serious traffic accident occurred on the evening of Monday, August 17, 2026, shortly before 21:00, on Poseidon Avenue in Voula. According to the police authorities and the publications, the incident developed at the height of the PIKPA Voulas, in the traffic stream towards Glyfada. Footage from a security camera, made public on Tuesday, shows the taxi moving in the middle lane in the direction of Vouliagmeni and attempting a U-turn at the height of Crete Square. At that moment, a motorcycle moving in the left lane at speed did not manage to avoid the collision and crashed into the vehicle. The material was initially published by a local media outlet in the region and was then reproduced by the national ones, being a key element for the reconstitution of the conditions.

The 39-year-old rider of the motorcycle was seriously injured and was taken to Asklepiio Voulas, the nearest hospital to the scene of the accident. No update has been given on the evolution of his health condition. The taxi driver was arrested for dangerous driving and causing bodily harm by negligence, charges of which he is presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court of law. The breathalyzer to which he was subjected was negative. The exact circumstances of the accident are being investigated by the 1st Traffic Department of Southeastern Attica. A negative alcohol test does not negate the charges, as these are based on the maneuver itself and not on the driver’s condition.

U-turning on an expressway with multiple lanes in each direction is one of the most dangerous maneuvers on the road, especially when performed from an intermediate lane. The driver who attempts it must interrupt the course of two streams of traffic, while the maneuver is almost invisible to those moving behind him in another lane. For two-wheeled riders the risk is disproportionately greater, as they have no body protection and the stopping distance is greater than that of a passenger vehicle. In Greece, two-wheeled riders account for a disproportionately large percentage of road deaths compared to their share of traffic.

Poseidon Avenue consistently gathers a large number of traffic accidents, especially in the summer months when the traffic towards the beaches of the southern axis peaks in the evening hours. The South-Eastern Attica Traffic Services have intensified speed and behavior checks, while videos from security cameras and from other drivers are increasingly being used to investigate the circumstances.
