A fire broke out in the early hours of Tuesday, August 18, 2026 in a business premises in Mandra Attica. According to the press release of the Fire Department, fourteen firefighters with seven vehicles attempted to put out the fire. The fire caused serious material damage to the site, while no injuries were reported, neither to workers nor to the crews that attempted it. The announcement does not specify the type of activity that was housed in the building, nor the exact time of the fire; these are details that are usually clarified only after the investigation is completed and a relevant conclusion is issued.

The amount of force deployed gives an indication of the intensity of the event. Fourteen men with seven vehicles correspond to a medium-scale operation for a building fire, covering three needs at the same time: extinguishing, protecting neighboring facilities and checking for re-ignition after the flames have been contained. Commercial fires usually take longer than residential fires, as the contents of the premises, goods, packaging and machinery, burn rapidly and produce thick smoke that severely limits visibility. A preliminary investigation into the causes is carried out by the competent Investigative Authority of the Fire Brigade. The procedure is standard and followed in every fire with serious property damage: investigators examine the point of origin, the spread of the flames, the condition of the electrical installations and any flammable materials that were stored, while taking statements from those who first noticed the fire. At the time of publication, neither a probable cause nor an estimate of the extent of the damage had been announced, and any reference to a specific cause at this stage would be premature. The conclusion of the preliminary investigation will also determine whether a case file will be filed.
