Weather: Thunderstorms and 8 knots of wind from Wednesday in Evia, Crete

Improved weather conditions appeared on Monday, September 28, 2026, with more sunshine across the entire country, according to meteorological forecasts by meteo.gr. Despite the improvement compared to the rainy weekend that preceded, strong northerly winds persist in the Aegean, reaching 7 knots, while temperatures remain low for the season, slightly above 20 degrees Celsius. Local rain is expected in Crete and possibly in parts of eastern Thessaly, the Sporades and Evia, with gradual improvement during the day, while more intense rainfall is expected from midday in the Peloponnese.

According to the detailed forecast, on the mainland temperatures are expected to rise, while winds at sea will reach up to 6 knots in the Aegean and 4 knots in the Ionian. Temperatures will range from 5 to 21 degrees in Western Macedonia, from 7 to 26 in the rest of Macedonia, Thrace and Epirus, from 6 to 25 in Thessaly, from 7 to 27 in the rest of the mainland, from 11 to 24 in Crete and from 12 to 25 in the Aegean islands. In Attica, local clouds are expected with northerly winds up to 4 knots and temperatures from 17 to 25 degrees, with the northern and eastern parts of the prefecture 3-4 degrees cooler; a similar picture, with local clouds and winds up to 3 knots, will be seen in Thessaloniki. Similar conditions will prevail on Tuesday, with strengthened winds and local rain in eastern Thessaly, Sterea, Evia, northern Crete and the Cyclades.

From Wednesday, September 30, the picture changes again with a new deterioration in weather. Stormy northerly and northeasterly winds will prevail, while rain and thunderstorms will intensify especially in eastern mainland, the Aegean and Crete, with winds reaching up to 8 knots. The highest rainfall amounts are expected in Evia and Crete, areas that have already been tested by intense weather phenomena recently, with roads that had been transformed into “rivers” last weekend. Due to the strengthened northerly wind, temperatures will range around 20 degrees Celsius, with the possibility of the maximum reaching only 18 degrees.

On Thursday, new rain will occur in central and southern parts of the country, mainly in Evia and southern Aegean, while thunderstorms will occur again in Crete, with further temperature drop. This evolution means that residents and visitors to the Aegean islands, Crete and Sterea Greece, where the Sporades are included, are called to monitor the next updates from the National Meteorological Service for possible emergency bulletins, as conditions at sea are expected to be unfavorable for small vessels from Wednesday onwards.
