EODY: 324 cases of West Nile virus by 10/9

The National Public Health Organization (EODY) published on Thursday 10 September 2026, at 10:39, the weekly epidemiological report on West Nile virus, which covers the week ending on 9 September 2026. According to the organization, 34 new cases were recorded, bringing the total number of cases since the beginning of this year’s season to 324. Of these, 217 presented manifestations of the central nervous system, a figure that EODY records systematically in each weekly update. The organization also announced 30 deaths, all in people aged 65 and over. Cases are now found in 73 municipalities across the country. The appearance of cases both in tourist areas, such as Chersonisos, and in urban centres, such as Heraklion, shows that the virus is not confined to only one area of the country but follows wider patterns of spread.
