e-ΕΦΚΑ and ΔΥΠΑ: 2.48 billion euros to 4.3 million beneficiaries

A total of 2,483,783,697.78 euros will be paid out to 4,325,802 beneficiaries in the period from 24 to 28 August 2026, according to the payment schedule of the Electronic National Social Security Fund and of the Public Employment Service, released on Friday 21 August 2026 at 20:01. The greater part of the amount concerns main and auxiliary pensions for the month of September 2026, which, as is customary, are credited to beneficiaries’ accounts at the end of the previous month. The number of beneficiaries also includes people who appear in more than one payment category. The schedule is published on a weekly basis and works as a timetable, not as individual notification to each beneficiary separately.

The main part concerns e-ΕΦΚΑ and is divided over two dates. On 26 August 2026 the payment of 1,319,958,516.21 euros to 2,628,753 beneficiaries is scheduled for main and auxiliary pensions for the month of September 2026. On 28 August 2026 a second payment follows, of 1,113,745,181.57 euros, to 1,652,849 beneficiaries, also for September 2026 pensions. At the same time, across the whole period from 24 to 28 August 2026, e-ΕΦΚΑ will pay out 17,500,000 euros to 800 beneficiaries for lump-sum benefits. These three parts account for the overwhelming majority of the total amount announced.

The second part concerns the Public Employment Service. It provides for 17,000,000 euros to 28,000 beneficiaries for unemployment benefits and other allowances, as well as 1,500,000 euros to 2,200 mothers for subsidised maternity leave. In addition, 14,000,000 euros go to 13,000 beneficiaries of subsidised employment programmes and 80,000 euros to 200 beneficiaries of public benefit programmes. These payments concern population groups with different characteristics from pensioners, since they are linked to the course of employment and to programmes of limited duration implemented through public sector bodies and local government. The total amount channelled through ΔΥΠΑ comes to 32,580,000 euros and corresponds to a small fraction of all the week’s payments, but it concerns households with lower and less stable incomes.

The announcement does not break the amounts down by pension category or by former insurance fund, nor does it make clear whether the sums paid include arrears or increases. Nor is the exact time of crediting per bank specified, a detail that in practice shifts the availability of the money by a day or two. Finally, no comparison is made with the corresponding amounts of previous months, which would show whether the overall total is rising or falling. These payments are a steady monthly quantity for the Greek economy, since a significant part of them passes straight into consumption. Beneficiaries who do not find the payment credited on the dates announced need to approach the competent body, since individual outstanding matters are not covered by the general payment schedule.
