TIF 2026: Mitsotakis, 2.2 billion euro measures for 2027

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced on Thursday 10 September 2026, in his speech at the International Thessaloniki Fair (TIF) 2026, a support measures package worth 2.2 billion euros for 2027, according to Editorial. The aim of the interventions, as presented, is to increase available income for self-employed professionals, employees, civil servants, pensioners, farmers, people with disabilities, families with three or more children and tenants. The TIF is held this year from 10 to 13 September 2026 in Thessaloniki, with the prime minister’s speech at the fair traditionally being the occasion for government announcements of economic policy for the year, as this is where the measures to be included in the next state budget are usually announced.

According to what was presented, self-employed professionals will see the abolition of income presumptions, while the advance payment of taxes is reduced from 55% to 50% from the 2027 tax year, and additional changes to professional fees were announced. For pensioners, an additional amount of 100 euros is envisaged, which is expected to be paid in November, while civil servants are expecting a 500-euro increase. The minimum wage in the private sector is projected to reach 1,000 euros by January 2028. Tax relief was also announced for farmers and for families with three or more children, as well as people with disabilities, while new financing tools for small and medium-sized enterprises were envisaged through the Hellenic Development Bank, with the aim of facilitating access to capital.

Regarding the exact timing of the payment of the 500-euro increase for civil servants, the reports differ from each other: some place it in December, others at Christmas 2027, without the issue being clarified publicly at this stage. Enikos.gr published a detailed “calendar” for the implementation of the announcements, which describes the application of each measure, with different dates per intervention and a separate guide for who the beneficiaries will be and when they will receive funds. Part of the coverage characterizes the package as the largest of the post-memorandum period, with benefits being paid gradually, in instalments, until December 2027. In parallel, according to Ethnos, small and medium-sized enterprises appeared cautious towards the package, especially regarding changes to income presumptions, advance tax payment and professional fees, wanting to see first the detailed implementation of them.

The exact legislative timetable, as well as the details of implementation per category of beneficiaries, is expected to be determined subsequently, as TIF 2026 continues until 13 September with further statements by government officials. It is not yet known how the announcements will be detailed in the 2027 budget, nor what the final timetable will be for each of the individual interventions. The government announcement comes a few days after the 7.39 billion euro programme presented by opposition leader Alexis Tsipras at TIF, and is part of a broader economic framework following the ELSTAT announcement of 1.9% growth in the second quarter of 2026.
