DEI: Green tariff more expensive, blue cheaper

DEI published on Tuesday 1 September 2026 the electricity tariffs for September, according to reports from Fortune Greece and To Pontiki. The charge for the variable «green» residential tariff Γ1/Γ1Ν is set at 0.14913 euros per kilowatt-hour, from 0.1384 euros per kilowatt-hour in August, that is an increase of 7.7%. At the same time, the charge for the fixed «blue» tariff myHome Online decreased to 0.115 euros per kilowatt-hour, while myHome Enter remains at 0.145 euros per kilowatt-hour, as the same reports note for developments in the Greek energy market.

The difference between the two types of tariffs is substantial for the consumer. The «green» Γ1/Γ1Ν is variable and is adjusted every month depending on the performance of the wholesale energy market, while «blue» products such as myHome Online «lock in» the supply charge for a period of 12 to 24 months, offering predictability without, however, following any possible market declines. According to Fortune Greece, the wholesale energy market was about 21% higher compared to August and about 43% higher compared to July. To Pontiki notes that DEI chose not to pass on to the green tariff the entire rise in the wholesale market, absorbing part of the increase instead.

For households, the increase in the green tariff means higher supply charges per kilowatt-hour compared to August, while those who have chosen the fixed myHome Online will see reduced charges if they are included in that program. The exact amount of each invoice depends on consumption, the chosen tariff and the regulated charges added to it, details that are not analysed in the available reports. In the same market, according to To Pontiki, the other suppliers moved at different speeds: HERON and Protergia maintained their «green» tariffs unchanged, while other suppliers, such as Elinoil, proceeded with increases above 19%, and ZENTH with a reduction of around 18.2%. These differences reflect the individual commercial policies of each supplier in relation to fluctuations in the wholesale market.

Electricity tariffs in Greece are announced on a monthly basis by each supplier, based on the performance of the wholesale market in the previous period, so new adjustments are expected in October 2026 as well. DEI has already announced that the reduced charge for myHome Online applies to new customers until 31 October 2026, according to To Pontiki. The range of private suppliers is expected to announce their tariffs again at the beginning of each month, as happened in September, with the performance of the wholesale market remaining a decisive factor in the formation of the next tariffs.
