ASEP: teacher applications open on 26 August

The platform of the Supreme Council for Civil Personnel Selection for teachers’ applications opens on Wednesday 26 August 2026 at 08:00 and will remain active until Thursday 10 September 2026 at 14:00. According to Proson and Alfavita, the applications concern the 1ΓΕ and 2ΓΕ calls, that is the ranking lists for teachers in Primary and Secondary Education. The two calls form part of a total of sixteen competitions and calls under way during August 2026. ΑΣΕΠ (ASEP) took over management of the teachers’ lists so that ranking rests exclusively on objective and verifiable criteria, replacing older systems that were based mainly on the order of graduation.

The 1ΓΕ and 2ΓΕ lists are the foundation of the staffing system for public education. Both permanent appointments and the hiring of substitute teachers across the country are drawn from them, with the ranking order resulting from objective, points-based criteria: degrees, master’s and doctoral qualifications, certified knowledge of foreign languages and computer skills, as well as prior service. They are renewed at regular intervals and every new application process redefines the order of thousands of candidates. Ranking on these lists determines in practice in which area and at what point in time a teacher will be called up, with the result that a difference of a few points translates into a difference of a whole school year.

The timing of the deadline has practical significance for those concerned. Submission begins a few days before the start of the school year and ends in early September, a period during which many candidate teachers are already awaiting placements as substitutes. Gathering the required supporting documents, especially certificates of equivalence for foreign qualifications and confirmations of prior service, takes time and it is not advisable to leave it for the final days. The lists remain in force for a set number of years, so every new process carries weight over a long horizon and not only for the coming school year. Candidates who already have a record in the ΑΣΕΠ (ASEP) system must check that their registered details are up to date, since the points calculation draws on them.
