Santorini: housing sought for teachers

Thira Municipality continues for the new school year to record available properties for teacher housing on Santorini. The initiative was announced on Tuesday, August 11, and is being implemented in cooperation with educational bodies on the island, with the aim that the commencement of work is not delayed due to the inability to find accommodation on the island.

The initiative involves the Union of Parents and Guardians of Thira, the Secondary Teachers Union (ELME) of Thira, and the Primary Teachers Union (SEPE) of Thira and Islands, representing parents, secondary teachers, and primary school teachers respectively. The survey is directed at property owners on the island. The announcement emphasizes that timely location of housing is an important prerequisite for the smooth start of the school year.

Property owners who have accommodation for rent are invited to register it in an electronic database. Alternatively, they can send their details to the municipality’s email address dep@thira.gov.gr or contact by phone at 22863 60121 and 22863 60122. This information is then made available to educators seeking housing before they assume their duties. All three communication channels remain open simultaneously, with no submission deadline set for the details.

The municipality clearly states that it functions exclusively as an intermediary between property owners and interested educators. It bears no responsibility for lease terms nor for the contracts that will be signed, which are a matter between the two parties. This clarification delineates the role of the municipal authority in a real estate market that operates by private standards and free negotiation.
