Mykonos: 23-year-old arrested after 18-year-old's complaint

Police authorities on Mykonos arrested a 23-year-old man following a complaint by an 18-year-old tourist about a sexual assault at a beach bar on the island. According to naxostimes.gr and iefimerida.gr, which published the story on the morning of Thursday 20 August 2026, the young woman told the authorities that the incident took place on a sunbed at a well-known beach bar, where she was with her group of friends. As she stated, she had earlier consumed a large quantity of alcohol and was in a condition in which she was unable to resist. The 23-year-old is alleged, again according to the complaint, to have taken advantage of that condition and to have proceeded to a sexual act without her consent. After the complaint was filed an investigation followed to identify the man the 18-year-old had pointed out; the 23-year-old was located in the area of Platys Gialos and arrested.

The two sources agree on the basic outline of the incident, but differ on individual points. naxostimes.gr reports that the 18-year-old was on the sunbed together with the 23-year-old, while iefimerida.gr attributes to the complaint an account in which the man approached her while she was in a state of intoxication, struck up a conversation and, after the incident, left the spot. Neither of the two publications cites an official announcement by the Hellenic Police with detailed information. At this stage, this is a complaint and an arrest: the 23-year-old is charged and has not been found guilty of any offence, while the case file brought against him will be judged by the courts. Neither the identity of the complainant nor the name of the establishment where the incident is alleged to have taken place has been made public.

Mykonos has its own Police Sub-Directorate, which is reinforced during the summer months to cope with the volume of visitors.

The man arrested is expected to be brought before the competent prosecuting authority; felony-level cases from the Cyclades are heard at the Public Prosecutor’s Office of the Court of First Instance in Syros. The case remains under investigation and it has not been announced whether witness statements have been taken or whether material from the establishment’s security cameras is being sought.
