Mykonos: «stash» with 74 packets of cocaine

A quantity of cocaine divided into dozens of ready-made small packets was found on Sunday 16 August 2026 in an open-air spot on Mykonos, following a targeted search by officers of the Mykonos Police Sub-Directorate. According to the Hellenic Police announcement, 55.5 grams of cocaine split into 66 small packets were found at the site, along with a further 8 grams of pink cocaine in eight more packets. In total, that is, 63 grams in 74 ready-made portions. The spot, as it is described, was being used as a hiding place: the packets were carefully concealed so as not to be visible to anyone passing by at random. The powder cocaine and the so-called pink cocaine were found packaged separately, which according to the police points to preparation for distribution in small quantities rather than possession for personal use.

The police authority states that the quantities were ready for distribution, that is, in retail-sized packets rather than in a single mass. The find came, as is noted, in the context of operational planning involving targeted actions and field surveillance, a method applied on the island during the peak months. A case file has been drawn up. Up to the publication of the announcement no arrest had been made known, while the investigation continues in order to identify those involved. As long as responsibility has not been attributed to a specific person, any reference remains at the level of the find and not of a perpetrator. The choice of an open-air spot, rather than a home or a vehicle, is also characteristic: it allows the holder to approach the quantity gradually, without carrying it on their person, and makes it harder to link the find to a specific individual.

For Mykonos, the incident is not an isolated one. In the summer months the island draws a population many times its permanent one, with an intense night-time economy and a high turnover of visitors who stay only a few days. The practice of the «stash» — concealing quantities in a public or semi-public space, so that the holder carries nothing on them in the event of a check — reflects exactly that condition. The island’s police services have been reinforced for the summer season, while in recent days other incidents have also occupied the authorities, such as the arrest of a 20-year-old for hitting a pedestrian. The Mykonos Police Sub-Directorate has recorded a series of cases this year involving drugs, noise pollution and road traffic, with the incidents concentrated in July and August.

The next step is procedural: the case file will be submitted to the competent prosecuting authority, while the substances are sent for laboratory testing that will determine their composition and purity. The element of «pink cocaine» — a commercial name that in practice covers mixtures of different substances rather than a fixed preparation — makes the laboratory analysis essential, since the classification of the quantities depends on it.
