Mykonos: nine arrests in drug trafficking ring

A criminal organisation alleged to have been trafficking drugs on Mykonos was dismantled following an operation by the Drug Enforcement Sub-Directorate of the Directorate for Combating Organised Crime, in the early morning hours of Friday 21 August 2026. Special Operations Teams assisted in the operation, while the investigations that followed extended to homes both on the island and in Attica. Nine people alleged to be members of the organisation were arrested, along with a 22-year-old against whom a separate case file was opened for possession. For the others, the case file concerns, among other things, forming and joining a criminal organisation with the purpose of drug trafficking.

According to figures released by the authorities, 359.5 grams of cocaine, 155.2 grams of the substance known as “pink cocaine,” 58.3 grams of MDMA, 277.8 grams of raw cannabis and 113 ecstasy tablets were seized. Also found were four vaping devices, two precision scales, a pistol with a magazine, twelve mobile phones and a metal safe, while seven passenger cars and one motorcycle were impounded. The cash seized includes 80,950 euros, 9,477 US dollars, 640 pounds sterling and two gold sovereigns. The organisation’s expected illicit profit is estimated by the authorities at more than 170,000 euros. The seized mobile phones and vehicles remain at the authorities’ disposal.

During the police investigation, a 35-year-old is alleged to have run the organisation, with another 35-year-old as his direct associate. A 54-year-old woman is alleged to have handled transferring the profits from Mykonos to Athens, while a 34-year-old driver of a passenger transport vehicle is alleged to have used his contact with tourists to sell the substances. Individuals aged 24, 32, 34, 29 and 28 are named as peripheral members. Four of those arrested had previously come to the authorities’ attention for similar offences. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven otherwise by a court. Two different figures appear in the reports: Reporter.gr cites ten arrests, while ERT cites nine members of the organisation plus a 22-year-old. This is the same tally, with different grouping of those brought in, since the 22-year-old is alleged not as a member but as a possessor.

The case adds to a series of police operations on Mykonos this summer. On 20 August, two arrests for drug trafficking had been announced, while a few days earlier a hideout with 74 packages of cocaine had been found, and earlier in the month five arrests for drugs had taken place. Unlike the previous cases, this one is described by the authorities as an organised structure with a hierarchy and distribution of roles, rather than isolated dealing. For an island whose population multiplies during the summer months, the pressure on local police services has remained steady since mid-summer. The next steps depend on the progress of the investigation and the scope of the acts for which prosecution will ultimately be brought. It has not been announced whether other individuals are being sought as part of the same case file.
