Mykonos: two arrests for drug trafficking

Two men, aged 37 and 44, were arrested on Mykonos at midday on Wednesday 19 August 2026 for possession, storage and trafficking of narcotic substances. According to the official announcement of the Hellenic Police, as reported by naxostimes.gr, the arrest was the result of a targeted operation by the Mykonos Police Sub-Directorate, which had previously placed the two men under discreet surveillance. The investigation established, again according to the police, that the two men arrested are alleged to have been active together in trafficking, while a large quantity of the substances is alleged to have been hidden inside a parked private car that they used as a stash. The two men were located one after the other and searches followed at a home, on a motorcycle and in two private cars.

The list of seized items is among the largest announced on the island this year. Officers found 365.8 grams of MDMA in six packages, 76.3 grams of pink cocaine in 19 packages and 36.5 grams of cocaine in 41 packages, that is more than 478 grams of narcotic substances in total. Also seized were 36 narcotic and pharmaceutical tablets without a prescription, three mobile phones, a precision scale and packaging materials. A further 65,900 euros and 125 US dollars passed into the hands of the officers, sums which according to the police came from trafficking. The number of small packages — 60 for the two forms of cocaine alone — is the element that the police link to retail distribution rather than personal use.

The incident is part of a series of similar cases on Mykonos during August. A few days earlier the discovery of a stash with 74 packages of cocaine had been announced, following the same logic of concealment at a point away from a home. The method is not accidental: on an island where checks at the ports and the airport intensify in summer, storage in a parked vehicle allows traffickers not to carry a quantity on them as they move around. The police point out that the case is part of the special operational actions of the police services of the South Aegean against the spread and trafficking of narcotic substances.

A felony-level case file has been brought against the two men and they are being taken to the Public Prosecutor’s Office of the Court of First Instance in Syros, where serious cases from across the Cyclades are heard. The two men arrested are charged and have not been found guilty of any offence; the judgment belongs to the courts. It has not been announced whether the investigation is being extended to other individuals, nor whether the money seized is linked to a particular network. The police have not made public the identities of those arrested, in line with their standing practice for cases at the pre-trial stage.
