Ano Mera, Mykonos: man dies after hotel fire

A fire broke out in a room of a tourist accommodation in the Ano Mera area of Mykonos in the early hours of Friday 18 September 2026, with fatal consequences. According to reports, a firefighting unit responded to the incident after it was reported, and upon arrival broke down the door of the room, finding a man unconscious inside. The man was transported to the Mykonos Health Centre, where he was pronounced dead.

Firefighting units of the Mykonos Fire Service engaged in extinguishing the fire, however reports differ regarding the precise scale of the operation: Cyclades24 reports seven firefighters with two vehicles, while other reports, such as the Journalist’s Newspaper and in.gr, refer to different numbers. The fire was limited in scope and did not spread to other rooms of the accommodation, though the evacuation of other guests was carried out as a precaution. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, and investigation is underway.
