Heraklion: two arrests for cannabis and drug pills

A targeted police operation in Heraklion has resulted in two arrests for violations of narcotics legislation. The action was carried out on Saturday 8 August by the Heraklion Police Directorate, with the related announcement made public on the morning of Sunday 9 August. According to police, the operation was based on prior information gathering and led to a house search, where narcotic substances and items connected to their distribution were found.

In the search, 483.38 grams of cannabis and twenty narcotic pills were confiscated. Also found were precision scales and a grinder, items that authorities link to packaging and distribution of substances, as well as two mobile phones. A sum of 460 euros was also confiscated, which according to the police announcement is considered proceeds of criminal activity. All findings were recorded and made available to the pre-trial investigation process.

The operation utilized information from the Heraklion Police Operations Department, and involved the Drug Prosecution Department of the Heraklion Prosecution and Investigation Division. Two individuals were arrested: a 35-year-old man and a 41-year-old woman, against whom charges were filed for narcotics violations. The Drug Prosecution Department of Heraklion is conducting the pre-investigation and will determine the final classification of the alleged acts.

Such operations follow a steady pattern of checks that intensifies during the summer months in Heraklion, when traffic in the city and coastal areas peaks.
