Chania: Arrest of 26-Year-Old with Pink Cocaine

A new arrest was made in Chania on the afternoon of Tuesday, August 11, as part of an investigation into a drug trafficking network using courier services. Narcotics investigators from the Chania Police Directorate located a 26-year-old foreign national in a rental room in the wider Chania area. According to police, the location was being used as a warehouse and packaging point for substances.

During the search, 132.3 grams of pink cocaine, also known as tusi, 109.8 grams of cannabis, 2,650 euros in cash, precision scales and numerous packaging materials were seized. A case file was prepared against the suspect and the preliminary investigation continues with the Narcotics Investigation Division of Chania. The presumption of innocence applies until a final court decision is issued. Pink cocaine is a mixture of substances that has been circulating in recent years in nightlife venues and is appearing increasingly frequently in seizures by Greek authorities.

The arrest came one day after the initial operation on Monday, August 10, when a 21-year-old was arrested leaving a courier company in Chania holding a package. Inside were seven toy boxes containing 4 kilos and 412 grams of cannabis, as well as 122 grams of cocaine, carefully hidden to avoid detection by routine inspection. The 21-year-old went to the store to pick up the package and was apprehended by police a few meters after leaving, with the package in hand.

The investigation was then expanded to Heraklion, where a second package was found the next day containing 7 kilos and 854 grams of cannabis and 337 grams of cocaine, also hidden in toy boxes. The fact that the same method of concealment was used in two different cities led authorities to conclude this is the same organized activity.

In total, the two packages yielded over 12 kilos of cannabis and approximately 460 grams of cocaine. A vehicle was also seized which, according to Greek Police, was used to transport substances from collection points to storage locations, along with mobile phones that will be examined as part of the investigation. Analysis of communications is expected to show whether there are more people involved and who coordinated the shipments to Crete.

Authorities are examining each person’s role, the route the drugs took to reach Crete, and the extent of the group’s operations. The use of courier networks to send substances to the island has been documented in previous cases and is a method that reduces couriers’ exposure to traffic checks. The law enforcement services of Crete have intensified operations recently, with recent examples including two arrests for cannabis and pills in Heraklion and the arrest of a 38-year-old for marijuana cultivation in Mylopotamos.
