Mandra: ELGA applications for fire victims until Aug 20

Submission of compensation applications to ELGA has opened for fire-affected residents of the Municipality of Mandra-Eidyllia. The submission deadline expires on Thursday, August 20, 2026, leaving a narrow window for those who suffered damage. The Municipality is urging those concerned to file early, so that the recording and assessment procedures can start immediately. The applications concern exclusively the agricultural side of the damage. They are separate from the housing and state-aid measures announced at the inter-ministerial meeting.

Damage to crop production and to infrastructure is covered. Infrastructure includes machinery, storage facilities and similar installations used for agricultural activity. This distinction matters, since each category is assessed under different criteria. Homes and other buildings fall under a different compensation scheme. Beneficiaries who have suffered both types of damage must submit separate applications.

Two forms are required for submission: the ELGA Notification and the Crop Production and Infrastructure Damage Declaration. The supporting documents that must accompany the file are an ID card, tax registration number (AFM), bank account number, contact telephone and permanent residence details. The completeness of the file determines the speed of the process. Incomplete applications are returned for completion.

The contact telephone number is 22630 51271. Those interested can go there for clarifications regarding the required documents. No option for electronic submission has been announced.

The Municipality notes that the earlier the file is submitted, the sooner the assessor’s on-site inspection of the field or facility can be scheduled. The inspection is the critical stage of the process, since it determines the amount of compensation. A delay in submission translates into a delay in the assessment and ultimately in payment. In an announcement, the Municipality states that it “remains beside those affected, aiming for the fastest possible recording of the damage and support for those hit by the fire.” The deadline has not been extended.

This summer’s fires in Western Attica left extensive damage to both homes and agricultural land. Recovery procedures are progressing on several fronts in parallel. Five support measures for fire victims have already been announced, while applications for state aid began earlier. On the environmental side, anti-erosion works are due to begin before September 15. Beneficiaries must track each deadline separately.
