El. Venizelos: 18 kg cannabis, three arrests

Three people were arrested Wednesday evening August 5 in an Attica area, within a case of cannabis import via air route. Arrests were made by officers of the Narcotics Prosecution Directorate of the Organized Crime Directorate, following targeted inspections by the Airport Narcotics Unit. These are men aged 37, 45 and 24 years old, charged with a series of offenses and brought before the competent prosecutor.

According to police, the 37-year-old was detected upon arrival from abroad at El. Venizelos airport carrying two packages with a total of 18 kg of raw cannabis from hydroponic cultivation, SKUNK type. He allegedly attempted to hand the suitcase to the 45-year-old, who according to the same source also acted on behalf of the 24-year-old. The handover was not completed due to immediate arrest of all three.

In a subsequent search of the 45-year-old’s home, 60 grams of raw SKUNK cannabis were found, as well as cultivation equipment including aluminum frame, temperature meter and three fertilizer containers. Four seedlings 50 to 70 cm tall were also found. In total seized were 18 kg and 60 grams of cannabis, the four seedlings, three mobile phones, two precision scales, one stiletto-type knife, EUR 240 in cash and one suitcase.

The charges attributed to the three arrested concern cannabis import via air route, distribution, cannabis cultivation and violation of weapons legislation. According to information made public, one of the defendants has previously engaged the authorities for similar offenses. The arrested were brought before the competent prosecutor with formed case file, while presumption of innocence applies to all pending trial.

For Attica, the case concerns one of the most controlled entry points of the country. The Spata airport functions as a gate for millions of passengers in summer months and controls at arrivals intensify during this period. The combination of import via air route and domestic cultivation, as evidenced by seized items, shows the investigation was not limited to the entry point but extended to a residence within the basin.

Several details remain undisclosed. Not announced from which country the flight originated, nor the exact Attica area where arrests and home search took place. Also unknown is whether other persons are sought or if the case is connected to a broader network.
