Lavrio: moped crash at the port

A traffic accident occurred during the afternoon of Wednesday, August 12, 2026, in the land zone of Lavrio port. The spot is in front of the area’s fishing shelter. According to the Coast Guard, a moped ridden by a 47-year-old man collided sideways with a passenger car. The car was being driven by a 60-year-old man. The circumstances of the collision are being investigated by the competent authorities.

The 47-year-old rider of the two-wheeler was injured in the collision. An EKAV ambulance was called to the scene and took him. The injured man was taken to the Attica General Hospital “KAT,” a reference hospital for trauma cases. His medical condition was not reported. No injury to the 60-year-old driver of the car was reported either.

A preliminary inquiry into the exact causes and circumstances is being conducted by the Central Port Authority of Lavrio. Traffic accidents that occur within a port’s land zone fall under the jurisdiction of the port authorities rather than the traffic police. This distinction concerns the geographic delineation of the zone. The inquiry will examine the paths of the two vehicles and the question of right of way. No findings have been announced.

The incident coincided with the peak of the mid-August exodus from Lavrio port. On Thursday, August 13, nine departures to the islands were scheduled from that port. Traffic pressure in the land zone is significantly increased under these conditions. Vehicles waiting to board, trucks and two-wheelers move within the same limited space. These conditions raise the risk of low-speed accidents that nonetheless cause injuries.

Lavrio port has been upgraded in recent years and serves a growing number of routes to the Cyclades and the islands of the North Aegean. Traffic peaks during the mid-August period.
