Kypseli: stash house with stolen goods over 120,000 euros

Two women of foreign nationality, aged 34 and 35, were arrested in Kypseli following a police search that uncovered a home which, according to the Hellenic Police, was being used as a place to hide stolen goods. The announcement was made public on Friday 21 August 2026. The two women are accused of receiving and disposing of the proceeds of crime as co-perpetrators and of breaching weapons legislation. The case file also includes a 41-year-old foreign national, who has been identified and is being sought by the authorities. None of those involved is named and all are presumed innocent until the courts rule otherwise. The announcement does not attribute the thefts themselves to the two women, but the concealment and disposal of their proceeds, an offence that is prosecuted in its own right.

During the search a large quantity of gold items and jewellery was seized, along with bronze candlesticks, wooden figurines and metal platters. Also found were a revolver and an air pistol, 94 watches, 21 pairs of sunglasses, nine paintings, eight mobile phones, eight games consoles and two laptops, together with a large number of burglary tools, among them keys, metal cutting wheels and pliers. The estimated rateable value of the stolen goods is put by the police at more than 120,000 euros. The items, the announcement says, had been packed in towels, sheets and paper so that they could be taken out of the country and then sold. It is the combination of jewellery, watches and electronic devices together with burglary tools that, according to the authorities’ description, was found gathered in the same place.

The operation was carried out by the Athens Sub-Directorate for Crime Prosecution and Investigation, with the assistance of the Immediate Response service and DI.AS. motorcycle teams. The investigation solved three theft cases, while part of the jewellery has already been returned to the victims. The two women arrested were taken before the competent public prosecutor. The case adds to the incidents announced in recent weeks by the Hellenic Police in Attica as part of continuous checks, and concerns one of the densely populated central neighbourhoods of Athens, where the high concentration of apartment blocks makes such places hard to locate. The return of part of the jewellery to the victims means that those particular items had already been reported stolen and could be identified.

The announcement does not specify when exactly the search of the home took place, nor what led the officers to it. It is not disclosed in which areas the thefts whose proceeds were found had occurred, how many victims there are in total, nor whether the three solved cases concern homes, businesses or both. Nor is it stated to which country the items were to be taken, or how they were to be moved. It remains unknown how many of the seized items have been identified as the proceeds of specific thefts and how many are still looking for an owner, as does when the case is expected to come to trial. No photographic material of the seized items has been released, nor any appeal to possible victims to contact the competent services.
